Piperacillin Sodium Salt is a broad-spectrum β-lactam antibiotic. Piperacillin belongs to the class of extended-spectrum penicillins and inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis. It achieves this by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), enzymes involved in the final stages of peptidoglycan synthesis in the bacterial cell wall. This interference results in structural instability and eventual cell lysis.
Piperacillin Sodium Salt may be used for studying antibiotic susceptibility patterns or as a selective agent in culture media to isolate bacteria that are sensitive to this antibiotic.
